PEOPLE OF PALETTE: MADISON CRYER

Madison, tell us a little about your journey as a hairstylist! I have always loved playing with hair! When I found out there was a program called EVIT that I could take during high school I was all for it. I finished cosmetology school by the time I was 17 and knew I couldn’t just jump into doing hair so I did an apprentice program at a previous salon.

I worked behind the chair at that salon for about a year, and at that point I knew I didn’t want to work under someone forever so I went on my search with my friend Michelle for the perfect space and found Palette Collective. I have loved every minute being my own boss and I love that Palette Collective allows me to make our space however we want! What advice would you give yourself when you were starting out? Just freaking go for it! Get out there and do the dang thing!

It might be scary but wouldn’t you much rather say, “oops never doing that again” rather than say, “well what if…” Everything happens for a reason and exactly how it’s supposed to. The road may be hard to get to where you want to be but it will be so worth it!! What are your hobbies? I LOVE doing escape rooms with my sister and getting to use my brain in different ways. I also love trying new workout classes, Madison Avenue is one of my favorite cycle classes to go to!! (Not sponsored but I sure wish I was lol) I also love traveling to new places! Before COVID-19 happened lol… my goal was to travel to a new place each month! Describe your business in three words.

  • Exciting

  • Creative

  • Funny (hehe)

What is your #1 goal for 2020? I have a lot of little projects I want to start really focusing on! I really want to start up a Youtube channel, doing more IGTV’s for my Instagram, honestly I just really want to make an impact and establish a name for myself online by the end of 2020! In my personal life, I really want to focus more time on family and make it a point to be more present in my everyday life! I’m a huge family person and I feel like I kind of lost sight of what was important to me outside of work when we opened our salon in 2018, so a sister is making it a point this year to give myself more family time! You have a plane ticket to ANYWHERE in the world, where would you go? I would love to go to Italy! I’m almost fully blooded Italian, so I would love to find out more about where my family is from and just do everything there is to do! I’m a huge foodie so I honestly think the main thing I would want to do is try ALL the food! A close second would be all the islands of Greece! I’m OBSESSED with Mamma Mia so I would love to visit Skopelos where the movie was filmed! What do you enjoy most about what you do? I’ve been in the hair biz for 5 years now and I love the power I have to make my clients feel beautiful, confident, and strong walking out of my salon. I love every part of doing hair, from getting that first text to book your appointment, getting to meet y’all in person, getting to know YOU, and flipping the chair around at the end to show you your new hair! / GET IN CONTACT WITH MADISON Instagram: @hairbymadisonriley Location: 505 S.
